  1. Sea Pine golf course
    Golfers report:

Our new Hua Hin course opened in September 2010 to much acclaim, and rightly so. In a fantastic location some 4 kilometers south of the town and right on the beach, it lends itself to a tropical version of a links course.

Wind off the sea does come into play and the last 3 holes, some say already the best finishing holes around, are right up to the beach and are without doubt special; a par 5, par 3 and a go for glory par 4.

They have had trouble with the new greens but once they settle down will be a delight as the putting surfaces are true. A new clubhouse, overlooking the 18th and the sea will be opened around February 2011 when there will be the official course opening. The army, who designed this should be proud, but please beware of the 5 and even 6 ball groups. We hope that is sorted out quickly!

    Springfield golf course
    Golfers report:

A previous venue for The Thai Open, Springfield is a firm favourite with many local golfing residents, and one which simply has to be played at least
once, by every touring golfer. Now 27 holes, the first 18 (A & B) were designed by Jack Nicklaus in typical fashion, with long fairway bunkers and numerous water hazards. There are some very long carries from the back tees providing a real challenge for the 'brave', while the average golfer playing off the white tees will experience a serious test of his skills.
C course, designed by Schmitt Curley was opened in 2005 and although it had initial teething problems through being over played too early, it is now well established and proving to be as challenging as the main A & B course.

As with a lot of Nicklaus designed courses, you are not rewarded by hitting to the right. There always seem to be waste bunkers and water to catch your ball. The signature 18th hole is a real test with approach shots to an island green. Longer hitters will be tempted to get there in two.

The whole golf set-up at Springfield is difficult to fault. The courses are always immaculately maintained and the caddies are excellent.
Additionally, the courses are professionally marshaled - a rare occurrence in Thailand. The clubhouse could be more "prestigious", but the changing rooms are excellent and good food is served. A luxurious hotel has recently been added to the golf complex for those wishing to stay and play.

    Sawang golf course
    Golfers report:

Situated in the valley of Khao Yoi , Sawang golf course meanders through gentle hills just North West of Petchaburi. An extremely enjoyable course to play with so much variation, it requires careful club selection to achieve a solid round. There are many water hazards and tree lined fairways on route. The greens are excellent, fast with plenty of movement. Considerable work has
been carried out on this course over the past year or so, clearing unnecessary and unsightly rough. On the whole, the second 9 is more scenic with some tremendous holes that will require careful thought. An additional 9 holes have now been added. The clubhouse is welcoming and the kitchen first class. A hotel also forms part of the complex for those wishing to stay overnight.

    Royal Ratchaburi Golf Course

    Golfers report:

This stunning course is found within the "triangle" of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi and Hua Hin. It is a major challenge for all golfers with trees, water and bunkers all coming into play on the fairways and the greens being a real test with their slopes and burrows. It is reckoned amongst the top 10 beautiful courses in Thailand. The clubhouse is modes
t, but you'll find everything you need and there is a neighbouring hotel if you require accommodation.

    Royal Hua Hin golf course
    Golfers report:

The oldest course in Thailand, (opened in 1924), Royal Hua Hin is only five minutes from Hua Hin town centre. The course is constructed on natural terrain round the base of a small rocky mountain. Thousands of mature trees line the sides of the fairways which are fairly narrow in places. Good irrigation was not part of a golf course build in 1924 and this course does suffer during the dry season with hard fairways, although the greens are usually in excellent condition. It is not a short course and most of the greens are slightly elevated which makes approach shots that bit harder. It is 'a must' course to play and will test the skills of golfers at all levels. It's a pleasure just walking the course with beautiful scenery and views of the sea in several places.
The clubhouse has been renovated and serves cheap beer (Singha as the course is ownd by Boon Rawd brewery) and good food.

    Palm Hills golf course
    Golfers report:

Just north of Hua Hin, Palm Hills is a fairly flat course with wide fairways. There are several strategically situated water hazards throughout the course and since 2004, fast new greens with plenty of movement have been in place. The course has been transformed over recent years from being average to now, probably one of the best manicured courses in the area. Built around the lower slopes of hills, there are some magnificent views of the coastline on the back nine holes.

The course is now very popular and gets extremely busy, especially at weekends. It's a generous course and so a favourite of higher handicap and lady golfers. The signature 11th hole is a testing par 3 and indeed from there to the 14th are probably the best holes on the course. It always benefits from a sea breeze and so is easily walkable. The clubhouse has recently been renovated and now provides excellent service.

    Milford Paradise golf course
    (AKA Seoul Country Club)
    Golfers report:

This golf course is constructed on the lower slopes of a mountain. Many of the fairways are very narrow, requiring great accuracy by even the best golfers amongst us. From several locations on the course, the scenery and views of the Gulf of Thailand are spectacular and with careful management this course could easily become one of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in the Hua Hin area. However, the course overall has been in very poor shape and requires a huge investment to bring it up to the standard expected by touring golfers. Efforts are being made, especially on the front nine, and the clubhouse has recently undergone refurbishment although there is still a lot to be done regarding the lower level changing rooms etc. In the current condition, we do not recommend golf at Milford. Hopefully that may change.

    Majestic Creek golf course
    Golfers report:

Majestic Creek golf course is a big favourite with many local and returning golfers, set in a stunning mountainous location close to the Burmese border. There are many natural water hazards in place that will prove a test to golfers of all abilities. A relatively short start to the course can lull you into a false sense of security as it gets a lot longer later round. The Zoysia grass is a pleasure to play on and your ball will always be sitting up on the tree lined fairways. Although the greens can be slowish at times, they have been quickened up recently and they all slope with a lot of movement so are difficult to master. No two holes are alike and birdies are hard to come by. The third nine holes are rarely played as the location does not provide ease of access. A pity, because this nine holes is also very challenging.

    Kaeng Krachan golf course

    Golfers report:

This wonderful course is situated within The Kaeng Krachan Estate in the middle of a vast area of natural beauty surrounded by mountains and containing forests and lakes. It is an undulating course that requires accuracy off the tee to avoid losing your ball amongst the many trees and bamboo groves which line the fairways. There are also several water hazards to be negotiated. All in all, a test of skill at every level of the game. The fairways are beautiful to play off and the greens can be tricky even though not appearing to have a lot of movement in them. They are a touch slow. A second 9 hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus was completed in 2007 and many believe it to be the best 9 holes in the area. A third 18 holes designed by Greg Norman is rumoured to be 'in the pipeline'.
Caddies were a little inexperienced a few years ago, but their standard has improved enormously. The clubhouse has recently been upgraded and refurbished.

    Imperial Lake View golf course
    Golfers report:

Now with 36 well maintained holes to choose from and with excellent clubhouse facilities and services, Lake View is a firm favourite with both residents and visitors to the area. The main A & B courses (Mountain & Lake), have several water hazards to negotiate. This together with doglegs and hidden greens will test the skills of both the average golfer and the low handicapper. The greens on A & B courses are very fast and take some reading.
C & D courses (Desert & Links) are as the names imply quite different. The Desert Course has been described as the best nine holes in the area. Designed to be different in so many ways this is a 'thinking golfers' course.
The recently developed Links Course has been cleverly shaped and landscaped to mimic traditional links courses though set in a hilly location. This is a long difficult nine holes which compliments the Desert Course extremely well. The greens on C & D are not as fast as A & B but there is a lot movement to consider.
A 70 room luxury hotel is part of the Lake View complex for those wishing to 'stay and play'. A beautiful swimming pool, tennis court, squash court and a snooker room is available to compliment the golf.

Though well maintained, A & B courses are looking a little 'tired' in places following heavy use last high season and there have been a few complaints about general maintenance. No problems on C & D. Greens, though varying in pace are good on all courses. [JANUARY 2011]

    Dragon Hills golf course
    Golfers report:

The golf course is found within the triangle of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi and Hua Hin.

This is a gem of a course and not played too much. The layout is superb and the holes blend in perfectly with the natural surroundings. The back 9 is particularly impressive and unusually has 3 par 5s and 3 par 3s giving you no let up and disrupting your rhythm. The signature par 3 12th requires an accurate shot to an island green. Fairways are in excellent condition and the greens are fast and true. Caddies are experienced and friendly.

The clubhouse is impressive and the restaurant serves great food. An affiliated hotel is located close by.

    Black Mountain golf course
    Golfers report:

A welcome addition to Hua Hin golf courses, Black Mountain opened for business in April 2007. The course is beautiful, set in a valley surrounded by mountains. Retaining many of the natural creeks and features of the land, the course has been designed to test the skills of the world's top golfers, yet still remaining playable for the average golfer. The fairways vary along their length, being generous for those with shorter drives, to narrow for the longer hitter. There are blind holes, dog legs, greens above and below the approach, variations of every description. The greens themselves are large, allowing for several pin positions each with varying degrees of difficulty. Lake, water and waterways are in abundance throughout the course which is also well protected by beautifully sculptured bunkers. To compliment the golf course, a magnificent clubhouse providing every facility overlooks the whole course. A panoramic view of the course and the surrounding countryside with mountains providing a backdrop in every direction is available to diners relaxing in the restaurant lounge. Course management and coaching staff are all qualified professionals.
Black Mountain hosted the season ending Asian Tour tournament in December 2010 and the 5th Royal Trophy between Asia and Europe in January 2011.

    Banyan golf course

    Golfers report:

Banyan golf course is the newest in the Hua Hin area having opened towards the end of 2008. Located in the mountains just South of Hua Hin, the course, wherever possible, follows the natural contours of the existing terrain and there are magnificent views of the Gulf of Thailand from several locations as you go round. Combined with spectacular mountainous scenery and lush surroundings, the course is visually stunning.
It is a bit open at the moment, but will play tighter as newly planted trees grow. The caddies were pretty inexperienced at the start, but their quality is fast improving. In excellent condition, the course is a welcome addition to Hua Hin’s ever-increasing number of golfing locations. Perhaps one gripe is that you will be charged for a caddie cart regardless of whether you use one or not.

The clubhouse is constructed with Thai teak and includes a pro shop and restaurant. Unfortunately, it’s really facing in the wrong direction for you to see much of the course and it does get hot. Banyan Estates will also offer the opportunitiy to purchase condominiums overlooking the fairways.
