  1. 12th August is an important day for all Thai people because if marks the birthday of Queen Sirikit and since the Queen is considered the mother for all Thai people, it is also the National Mother's Day. The 12th August is declared a Public Holiday, Government and commercial buildings will be floodlit to give a festive touch, religious and civic ceremonials will be held and people, from the smallest villages to the largest palaces will be celebrating.

As First Lady, Her Majesty empathises with other Thai women, their needs and capabilities. So another target for Her Majesty's endeavours was to encourage Thai handicrafts traditional to women. Spinning, weaving and dying of cotton (in fact, the Queen personally financed many of the weaving looms and provided "seed" money for support group and cooperatives) is one example of traditional skills as is basket weaving in its many forms. Anything from fish traps to matting to decorative basket and stylish lampshades all from the hands of industrious Thai ladies.

And all thanks to the personal encouragement and financial support from Her Majesty, the Queen. To express gratitude to Queen Sirikit who has dedicated herself to work untiringly for Thai citizens, all public and private sectors in Thailand hold a celebration to Her majesty's birthday anniversary every year.

In Hua Hin, the National Mother's Day celebration this year will be divided into three sessions. The morning session includes alms offering to Buddhist monks on Dechanuchit Road in front of Hua Hin Municipal School from 6.30a.m. to 8.00 a.m. Then, from 8.45 a.m. to 7 p.m. a workship offerings ceremony will be organised at the exit gate of Klaikamgwon Royal Palace.

Finally a candlelit ceremony demonstrating gratitude to the Queen will take place from 5 p.m. onwards at Queen Sirikit Memorial Park. Local people in Hua Hin are encouraged to decorate their house with a Thai flag or a Royal flag to make this event and everyone is Hua Hin is invited to celebrate this auspicious occasion together.
